2009 Dog of the Year

Buzz

NGSPA NC/NAC COUNCIL  MOUNTAIN  BUZZ  SAW

Buzz is owned and handled by George and Joan Wilson, of Council, Idaho.  This repeat performance as Dog of the Year is well-deserved, as Buzz went to the 2009 NGSPA National Championships, in Booneville, Arkansas, and took runner-up champion in the Amateur Championship and then won the National Shooting  Dog Championship.

Six -year-old  Buzz won the 2005 National Futurity runner-up Championship, in Booneville.  In 2007, Buzz won the NGSPA National Amateur runner-up Championship, and he returned in 2008 to win the Amateur Championship and a beautiful hand-tooled saddle.

George “retired” at the award ceremony last March, to a loud ovation from friends and fellow amateur and professional  dog trainers.  Buzz has earned five NGSPA national trophies and is now looking forward to a life of leisure, at stud.

Congratulations to GSPCI club members, George and Joan Wilson!

2005 Dog of the Year

FC AFC Rawhide Dixie Lee Clown MH

Dixie is a seven-year-old GSP, owned by Rick and Linda Dodge, of Wilder, Idaho. This past year has been an exciting and successful one for Dixie, as she traveled to field trials in Arizona, Texas, Arkansas, Oregon, and Idaho. Dixie was runner-up at the NGSPA Region 12 Amateur Shooting Dog Championship, in Tombstone AZ (Jan. 2005). This hour-long stake had a very strong field of competitors. In February, Dixie won the Amateur Gun Dog event and took third in Open Gun Dog at the San Antonio GSP Club trial. The Gulf Coast GSP Club awarded her 1st place in AGD and 2nd in OGD, in February, at Kyle TX.

Dixie went to the NGSPA National Championship, in Booneville, AR and made a strong showing in the AGD event. In September, she took 2nd in ALGD at Madras, OR. In October, Dixie took 1st place in OGD and 2nd in OAA at the ID Brittany Club trial, at Milepost #9.

2006 looks like a promising year for Dixie and her pups, Council Mountain Buzz Saw (owned by George and Joan Wilson), and 3D's Dixie's Cloud Dancer and 3D's Dixie's Mocha Jo. Buzz finished runner-up at the
2005 NGSPA National Futurity, and Dancer and Mocha were nationally ranked Derby dogs. Buzz also won the OGD event in the GSPCI Fall Field Trial!

2003 Dog of the Year

Rawhide Dixie Lee Clown

This is the 3rd consecutive year that Rawhide Dixie Lee Clown, Dixie, has been selected as the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Idaho, Dog of the Year honor. Dixie is a female, liver and white patched and ticked German Shorthaired Pointer, whelped on April 8, 1999.

This has been good year for Dixie, She has matured into a “comfortable shooting dog”, full of self-confidence with a keen desire to hunt, run and please. Her style, boldness and athleticism have been her keys to success.
Dixie participated in 6 Field Trials this year and placed 4 times, winning 3 times and 1 fourth place. Dixie finished her Field Champion early in the year and then took several months off to take care of her litter of pups. The new Field Champion was mated with NAC/FC Born To Buck Bad Luck “Buck”. Dixie produced two little Buck’s and 2 little Dixie’s all looking like National Field Champions we expect them to become.

Dixie did compete in the Summer Picnic/Water Retrieve and completing the retrieve out of water, but did not find the bird while attempting the blind retrieve.

Dixie is working towards her Amateur Field Championship, for which she needs 2 more points. Dixie’s success has been possible because of the great support we have received from our club, The German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Idaho.

2002 Dog of the Year

Rawhide Dixie Lee Clown, SN634431/03, call name Dixie

This is the 2nd consecutive year that Rawhide Dixie Lee Clown, Dixie, has been selected as the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Idaho, Dog of the Year honor. Dixie is a female, liver and white patched and ticked German Shorthaired Pointer, whelped on April 8, 1999.

This has been Dixie’s 3rd year of competition. Dixie has excelled this year, growing into a mature competitive trial and hunting dog. The puppy is gone but not the enthusiasm. Her desire to hunt, please and determination have made this a successful year.

Early in the year Dixie had qualifying scores in 2 Master Hunt Tests, the two she needed to complete her Master Hunter qualification.

For the Year 2002 Dixie had 4 AKC field trial placements, one of which was a 1st place major and a first for Dixie was an all age placement.
Tri-Cities German Shorthair Pointer Club 3rd AGD
German Wirehaired Pointer Club of Utah certification trial, 1st OGD
German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Utah, 1st, Amateur Gun Dog Ret, 2nd, Open All Age.

Dixie also competed at the National Pointing Dog Championships where she ran with great enthusiasm, had finds and a back but did not place. The Pointing dog Championship was a great experience for the both Dixie and her handler.

Dixie has now accumulated 7 of the 10 points she needs to become a Field Champion, 6 points toward the Amateur Field Championship, and competed her Master Hunter. This has only been possible because of the great support we have received from our club, The German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Idaho.

2001 Dog of the Year

Rawhide Dixie Lee Clown

Rawhide Dixie Lee Clown, SN634431/03, call name Dixie, has been named the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Idaho, Dog of the Year. Dixie is a female liver and white patched and ticked German Shorthaired Pointer, whelped on April 8, 1999.

The year of the terrible two’s have been a good one for Dixie, a bundle of energy, full of self-confidence with a desire to hunt, run and please. Her style, boldness and athleticism have been key to this year’s accomplishments.
Dixie had qualifying scores in 5 Master Hunt Tests. The German Shorthaired Pointer club of Idaho, The Idaho Brittany Club, and the German Shorthaired Pointer Club Of Reno held these tests.

For the Year 2001 Dixie had 7 AKC field trial placements, one of which was a 1st place major.

  • March, Idaho Brittany Club, Spring Trial, 4th Place Open Gun Dog
  • April, German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Utah, 3rd Amateur Gun Dog, 4th Open Gun Dog
  • May, German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Idaho, 3rd Amateur Gun Dog
  • September, Idaho Brittany Club, Fall Trial, 1st Open Gun Dog (major)
  • October, German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Reno, 4th Amateur Gun Dog
  • November, German Shorthaired Pointer Club Of Utah, 2nd Amateur Gun Dog

If Dixie had a fault this year it would be her failure to complete the blind retrieve during the Club’s summer fun day. Entered in the broke dog stake she held and retrieved with great enthusiasm, and enjoyed the swim. Her performance in the blind retrieve could be compared to her handler’s shooting… not good enough.

Dixie has now accumulated 6 of the 10 points she needs to become a Field Champion, 3 points toward the Amateur Field Championship, and 5 of the 6 qualifications for Master Hunter. This has only been possible because of the great support we have received from our club, The German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Idaho.
